The Spirit Lake City Council will hold off on a proposal to renovate the police station as part of a plan to focus on city hall.
High costs and limited space prompted the council to nix the idea of combining police station and city hall at an Aug. 2 meeting. The total cost was believed to be in the range of $3 million.

The Lakes Regional Healthcare has installed a new, state-of-the-art MRI machine, the first of its kind in northwest Iowa. It is a Magnetom Espree created by Siemen’s and has wide-bore technology.
On Tuesday, we were informed of the emergency, 600-foot no-wake rule had been lifted and boaters are now free to resume observation of the usual 300-foot no wake rule. The lake levels have gone down over a foot since the July 14 heavy rains.
